Sand table is a common item in the exhibition hall. In general, physical or semi-physical sand table models can be seen in enterprise exhibition halls, park displays, urban planning, real estate sales offices, port logistics, and scenic spots and monuments. The sand table is a comprehensive representation of current or future planning and is characterized by an intuitive image. However, the physical sand table has problems such as large footprint, inconvenient transfer, aging over time, difficult to change, and difficult to clean up.
With the development of technology, the emergence of various digital sand tables combined with new technologies has to some extent met the higher requirements for the application of sand tables, but it has never been able to achieve the comprehensive sensory experience such as the holographic sand table in the combat command room shown in the film "Avatar" directed by Cameron Anthony - science and technology, three-dimensional, interactive, multi-person surround view, comprehensive information presentation and so on.
XR technology promotes digital sand table instead of physical sand table
In the physical sand table project, we often encounter such challenges: the customer renovates the original exhibition hall environment, and the space is limited. Placing a physical sand table that meets the display standards will seriously affect other exhibition space. The overall system of the area with a display content of up to 3,000 square kilometers and the working principle of a certain plant and equipment are all expected to be demonstrated through a sand table. At the same time, the customer hopes that this sand table can show their success stories or plan and design, that is, they can switch between multiple schemes.
After many surveys and communications, we found that the sand table space and display needs planned by the customer are not suitable for any form of physical sand table, and the digital sand table that requires physical space is not suitable. At this time, the application of XR glasses to achieve extended reality digital sand table came into being!

The XR digital sand table is the development and extension of the digital sand table display, which places the three-dimensional digital sand table into the real environment we observe with the naked eye through XR smart glasses, this “insertion” conforms to the visual perspective relationship of the viewer, just as it really exists in the physical world.
